  7. This program converts the return code types of ASCII files between Line
  8. Feed (Amiga & UNIX), Carriage Return (Apple Macintosh), and Carriage
  9. Return with Line Feed (lame PCs). It's useful for compiling source code
  10. on a different computer other than the one it was developed on,
  11. particularly if the compiler is picky about that sort of thing. It also
  12. makes text file transfers far less painful than usual (if you're one of
  13. those people that ends up stripping off those nasty characters from the
  14. ends of lines).

  16. There isn't a great deal in terms of new features. There is actually ONE
  17. new feature (wowee!). It's not extremely useful, but it allows you to
  18. bypass the usual file identification process and provide your own. It
  19. can have it's applications, believe it or not.

  21. On the bug fixing side of things, there are only two that have been
  22. found. Mika Lundell of Finland kindly pointed out an Enforcer hit
  23. (which are pretty harmless anyway -if you can ever apply that term to an
  24. Enforcer hit!) that was caused whenever the program was run without
  25. arguments, but never during normal operation. There is no way (from my
  26. study of the code) that it could have crashed, or cause other programs
  27. to do so. Please bear in mind that this isn't down to my naff testing
  28. techniques, but due to the fact that I developed all versions of
  29. RetConvert prior to this one on my humble A500+, which did not have the
  30. luxury of an MMU! I now have a rather posh new Amiga with an MMU, so I
  31. have been able to check for hits. So far, I haven't found any!

  33. The second little bug fix was a tiny one that I found myself
  34. when converting a directory full of files (using the Workbench SPAT
  35. script). Simply put, whenever you'd supply the name of a directory for
  36. conversion, it would report that it didn't have enough memory to load
  37. the file. Oops! Again, as RetConvert cleans up after itself quite
  38. cleanly, I'd be surprised if this would ever cause anything more than a
  39. little bit of bewilderment! Checking is now done to make sure that you
  40. know the mistake is yours!
